Gray Marble Porcelain Living Room Floor in Bridgeview

Spacious Bridgeview living room with large-format gray marble porcelain floor and sectional sofa

This open-plan living room in a Bridgeview ranch home received a large-format gray marble-look porcelain floor. The slab-on-grade foundation is common in Bridgeview homes from this era, and this one had a few hairline cracks from normal freeze-thaw movement over the years. Before any tile was set, we applied a crack isolation membrane over the entire slab surface to prevent movement from telegraphing up through the new tile layer. The tiles are 24x48 inch format, requiring back-buttering and a medium-bed mortar for proper coverage. The layout was planned so the primary grout line runs parallel to the large window wall, which makes the room read longer and keeps the veining pattern directionally consistent with the view to the outside.
